Read about Gabriel Gonzalez

Gabriel Gonzalez is a proud Panamanian. He is proud of his culture, folklore, traditional dishes, and is now striving as Vice-Minister of Culture to create an inclusive environment for equal participation for people who have a handicap. Gonzalez lost his hearing to meningitis at the age of three years old, however, this did not stop him from becoming an energetic and productive artist. He reminisces of his father’s art collection of Panamanian artists, filled with strident color, an element that now resonates in his artwork. His canvases are often large format, filled with layers of paint that Gonzalez later moves and removes to allow the visibility of the layers beneath, creating contrasting vibrancies that create a colorful spectacle for his spectators.
