Read about Liliam Cuenca

Liliam Cuencas is a graduate of the Academy of San Alejandro in Cuba, where she concentrated her studies on painting and printmaking. She moved to the United States in the mid-1980s and has had a prolific career with numerous solo and group exhibitions. Her artwork focuses on the idea of parallel realities, where she tries to reveal that which remains hidden. Abstract in style, her paintings encompass a deep sensibility, reminiscing the essence of Romanticism. Her works possess a “foggy” aspect, where layers of paint allow us to see through to what lies behind them. It remits us to scenes like that of the “Wonderer Above a Sea of Fog” (by Caspar David Friedrich), where the audience becomes the spectator and beholds intently into the landscape created by Cuenca.
