DESCRIPTION:Abstraction became one of the preferred styles of the previous century for many artists. Given its characteristics of not being constrained by forms or settings\, artists had the liberty to use color and shapes as they pleased to create works that expressed their views of the world and of themselves. Despite its popularity\, it was never able to replace realism altogether. Many artists continue to create pieces in a realistic style\, some close to academic standards\, others with a painterly approach. The Americas Collection has curated a selection of works that showcase the various approaches to realism by the hand of diverse artists from Latin America.
